Class of 2023 Graduation
Collin Shapiro

On Friday, June 2, Salisbury celebrated its 122nd graduation on a beautiful day on the Hilltop. Family and friends of the Class of 2023 were beaming with pride as each member of the class climbed the Senior Steps to receive their diploma.

The celebration leading up to Graduation included a Spring Recital with performances by Classical Ensemble and Rock Band, the Cum Laude Society celebration, Brothers and BBQ community event, Awards Ceremony recognizing academic and extra-curricular achievements, Annual Sixth Form/Faculty Softball Game, Baccalaureate, and Knights of the Long Table dinner, and culminating with the Graduation ceremony of the Class of 2023.

Our sixth formers arrived excited and ready for commencement events to begin. The sounds of the bagpipes signaled the start of the Graduation ceremony. The Class of 2023 processed onto the Class of 2017 Quadrangle, led by the bagpiper, and followed by faculty, where they then took their seats, together as a class, for the last time.

The ceremony began with a prayer from Reverend Kirk Hall '90, followed by a welcome from Head of School William Webb. Head of School Webb shared the following message with the graduates, "What is clear is that you took to heart that in looking at a situation and asking yourself “what can I GIVE to this to make it better for all?” rather than “what is in it for ME?” you truly receive the most, and the outcome is often better than you envisioned it would be. As you move forward through life you will see, time and again, that this singular approach will serve you, and all those within your sphere, very well.”

Please, remember in all that you do and undertake, always be a Salisbury Gentleman. Our world needs you now more than ever. As well, know that the Hilltop will always be here for you, and we hope you will return to this home and visit often."

We then turned our attention to hear from School President Justin DeLucia '23, who gave a great speech in which he said, "I am confident when I say that all of the men sitting here today are true Salisbury Gentlemen. We are men of character, loyalty, honor, and courage. We embody our motto, esse quam videri, to be rather than to seem to be and will carry this with us as we move on from the Hilltop. We will become great husbands, great coworkers, great fathers, great neighbors, and overall spectacular people who I am lucky to call my Brothers.”

Associate Head of School, Director of College Advising of School Bobby Wynne P'19 announced and awarded the leadership and service awards while Head of School William Webb handed out the awards as well as handing out diplomas to the Class of 2023.

Our graduates enjoyed their final moments on the Hilltop as the graduation ceremony closed, and before they drove off campus from their alma mater. Congratulations Class of 2023, you will be missed, but we look forward to seeing you again together as a class for your 5th Reunion on the Hilltop, if not sooner. Now, these Knights are Salisbury Gentlemen.
